The results of the survey that was conducted by the Virginia Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service were released December 14, 2007.
According to the survey there are 2,200 horses in Powhatan County with an estimated value of $14, 590, 000. Average price per head is $6,632.
While the figures show an increase of 100 horses since the 2001 survey, the total value figures have dropped.
Statewide figures show a 26% increase in the estimated number of equines in the state - 215,000 (since the 2001 survey.)
