A State Forest Recreation permit is required and can be purchased anywhere you can purchase a hunting or fishing license or on the DGIF website http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/licenses/. You will need to reach Step 2 of the on-line purchase process to make the permit choice
Don’t forget to carry a copy of your negative Coggins when riding on all public properties.
Directions: From the intersection of Rt. 522 and Rt. 60, continue west on Rt. 60. Just prior to Cumberland Courthouse, turn right on Rt. 622. Go 4.5 miles and turn left on Rt. 629. Go about 1 mile and turn right at the first fork, remaining on Rt. 629. Proceed over the dam and continue about 1mile and turn right into the State Forestry Headquarters and park in the front fields.
Alternatively, you can remain on Rt. 60 and drive about 2 miles West past Cumberland Courthouse and turn right on Rt. 628, Forestview Road (beside the school). Go 3.2 miles to the Stop sign. The Forestry office will be directly across the road from the stop sign.
